This hat was made for my friend, Jen. She once told me that it was difficult for her to find a hat to fit and I told her I would knit one for her. She looked through several of my knitting books and found a reversible hat pattern in Mastering Color Knitting by Melissa Leapman. She explained to me what she wanted and which colors she would like. The pattern I used to learn the method was the "Memories of Vail" hat, though it doesn't have the snowflakes. I took the snowflakes from page 49 in the book. I also used a different number of cast-on stitches so that it would fit my friend's head and also make the pattern correctly.
This was the first time I had ever done reversible knitting with more than one color and though it was difficult, it was also very rewarding and I know I will someday want to do it again.
